Katherine Ewalt, over the past several years, has been an outstanding clinician in the evaluation, treatment, and care of dancers and performing artists. Coming from a background in dance, gymnastics and music she brings a personal experience and passion to the prevention, care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of this unique and demanding patient population. She has been a fervent and professional clinician as an athletic trainer and principal behind PAARTS, as well as a valuable educator on a national and international level in the field of performing arts medicine. She has demonstrated both clinically and academically a strong knowledge base as well as clinical acumen in this subspecialty branch of musculoskeletal injuries. Ms. Ewalt is well-recognized and respected in the field.

I have known and worked with Katherine (Katy) Ewalt for over 20 years. We have co-treated many patients who depended on her to get them back to their sport or livelihood. Katy has excellent skills at discerning what problems a patient has and why that problem occurred. Her extensive experience as a dancer, musician and gymnast allows her to design rehab programs that guide the patient back to their activity as quickly and safely as possible. Katy uses great hands-on therapy which puts her above most therapists. She is continually educating herself in the best techniques and most up to date treatments for her patients. Katy is also an educator who gives lectures to sports and performing arts medicine groups both nationally and internationally. I highly recommend Katy to any active individual needing injury prevention, care, rehabilitation and reconditioning.

As a psychotherapist in San Diego, my successful experience working with Katherine Ewalt for a dance related hip injury has led me to refer my own patients to her. Now I see my patients experience the same results as I did—in short, a stronger and more complete integration of body, mind and spirit. I am continually pleased and even surprised to witness my patients move more easily and quickly through emotional and cognitive problems after Katy addresses bodily issues such as longstanding injury or chronic pain and constriction. Her superior skills, broad experience and intuitive faculties combine to create a uniquely safe environment for optimum recovery. Katherine Ewalt is a potent healing force.

Ms. Ewalt worked for me in the role of Lead Athletic Trainer for two years. She helped to design and implement the Sports Medicine and Reconditioning Team (SMART) Center at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego where there are over 36,000 visits per year.  Her efforts were critical in determining treatment protocols, equipment needs, and patient flow patterns for maximum efficiency.  Subsequently, the clinic realized over a 20% reduction in both down time and attrition due to musculoskeletal injuries…

Ms. Ewalt served as the clinical expert on all matters related to reconditioning and rehabilitation of injured Marine Corps Recruits.   She was frequently consulted by Physicians and Physicians’ Assistants.  Marine Corps staff members requested her personally to conduct rehabilitation of their own athletic and post-surgical injuries; numerous recruits returned to thank her after she successfully helped them recover from injury and graduate from recruit training.

She is a consummate professional, multi-talented and respected by all.  She had faced and overcome the challenges of introducing new concepts (those of sports medicine and Athletic Training) into an old organization (the U. S. Government).  She did so in a highly stressful environment (recruit training) during a time of exceptional stress with our county at war.  She met every challenge with the grace, competence, fortitude and tact required to ensure the best possible care for the patients. It has been a privilege to work with her.

Since my knee injury happened I never believed that I would ever be able to be a normal person again. After my surgery I felt a little more hope that I would get better, but what really changed my life and my outlook on my health was the incredible scientific knowledge that Katy has, and her unique talent to transmit it and make me what to push harder every time.

Being a healthcare professional for over 12 years in my home country of Mexico, I know how rare it is to find someone with all the expertise and human touch that Katy has; thanks to her, I have my life back and I know my body like I have never known it before.

Even if you are not part of the dance or performing arts community, Katy’s background will help you to understand that your body is your only home, and if you don’t’ look after it no one else will.  It is the only home you have for your entire life, so there is no better time than the present to start taking care of it with the right supervision.

Thank you, Katy, for accompanying me in this journey.
